RDP to the console in Win2k3
Many folks like to insist that microsoft never really updates the kernel. They just reskin their OS. Well, I say that’s not true. Every release they raise that bar on annoying little things I have to deal with.
I remote to work on Wednesday’s and normally tuesday night I just lock the desktop and leave up what ever I’m working on. Then RDP in from home the next day via VPN. When I was running XP, no problem. My desktop would pop up as I left it. Then I reimaged the machine after the last ship cycle and for some strange reason I put Win2k3 on the machine. I noticed that now when I RDPd in I got a completely new desktop. Not as helpful, for me, as you might think.
If you want to RDP to a Win2k3 box and get the console, use this command line:
mstsc -v:servername /F -console
Got this, strangely enough, off of the Microsoft site here.
