Goodbye, Steve

It’s back!

Well, the MacBook is back. I guess now I get to keep working with it and see if any more problems come up. This screen is so bright I just can’t get over how clear it is. My father-in-law bought an iMac today and he loves it. I guess everyone is switching.

Apple Update

So, I don’t want to say I’m manic about checking things like package tracking and such. But now, for some reason. When I try and connect to the repairstatus page at apple from my IP I get connection refused. Hrmm. But the last thing I saw was that the repair was finished and it was [...]

iPod Nano 1.2 Firmware Screwed Up!

So, I’m not the only one having issues with firmware 1.2 causing stutters in my podcast play back. So I thought, no problem. I’ll restore to factory settings. Well, no.. it just nuked all my content and restored it to 1.2. Well crap on me. It still doesn’t play worth a damn. Stuttering every 5 [...]

MacBook in the shop

Took the MacBook in on Monday and they didn’t even bother playing with it. They pulled up the paper work and scheduled it to go to the “depot” to get the motherboard and heatsinks swapped out. I’ve heard on line that it’s believed that a wire running next to or over the heatsinks will actually [...]

Well, it happened…

Less than a month after taking delivery I’ve had three random shutdowns on the MacBook. One earlier in the week and two this morning. Doesn’t help that I’m sick and was just looking forward to cuddling up with the MacBook betweens run to the bathroom. Oh well.. that’s why we 1st Gen buyers make sure [...]

Warcraft III won’t run on Intel Mac

Was running into issues where I’d launch Warcraft III on my MacBook and it would stop just as soon as it started. Digging around I finally found a solution. Rename the “Movies” folder in your Warcraft folder to something else so the app doesn’t try and play the movies and you should be good to [...]

Setting the WiX Product Version number from NaNT

If you’re setting up your wix install as part of an automated build, with NaNT, here’s a quick way to set the MSI Product Version attribute. In my case I’m having CruiseControl.Net run my builds and so I use this bit of NaNT XML to make sure that the MSI version is the same as [...]

Mystery Solved

After fiddling for a while I noticed the breaker in the garage said “Bathroom Outlets” and it was the only one. On a hunch I went to the half bath in the basement outside my office and found the outlet there had a GFI built in. I reset it and tah-dah. The outlets in the [...]

The old light switch that does nothing, in reverse

So, the other day Stacia mentioned that her hair dryer finally died and went to pick up another. Then the next morning she asked me to go down and check the fuse box because the bathroom socket must be out because her new hair dryer wasn’t working either. I went down.. checked out the fuse [...]

Merom MacBooks

So, there are all kinds of rumors about MacBooks and MacBook Pros being revamped with the new Merom chipset – I won’t even begin to get into the details about what the hell a Merom is. My question is. Since I got my MacBook around the 21st of this month. And they’re rumoured to announce [...]
