Rev’s Thought Dump

I haven’t been able to get a good answer to my question about loading data files onto the iphone for a new app. Not data files that are part of the app, mind you. But let’s say you’re working on a viewer of some sort for a particular file format - no I’m not going to mention which. How do you get those files on the iPhone?

I sent an email off to Erica Sadun. If anyone knew - out side of Apple’s secret cabal - it would be Erica. But even though I got a fast and polite response, it looks like there are no obvious methods other than to possibly hit a url and save the file to your storage space on the iPhone.

Hrmm… not everyone is going to have access to hosting to get/post file from. This seems like a less than optimal solution, to me. And it certainly seems to lessen the value of my particular application if the user has to jump through hoops to get their files on the iphone and if they also have to put up files they might not want to share with everyone.

I wonder if you can get access to email attachments. I better alternative. I’ll look into it and see what I find.

iPhone file management

I’m looking at writing a viewer for the iPhone with the new SDK. But I’m trying to hunt down how I can get files to view on to the iPhone. Nothing is very clear there. If I can’t synch the files on to the phone, as I’m guessing I can’t, then do I have to grab the file off the web or something?

Anyone have the skinny on this?

Singularity and Parallels

Well, I got Singularity ( MS’s new mostly managed OS ) built. But now the ISO doesn’t want to boot in Parallels. Of course, no one said that it would. I was just hoping. Parallels throws a hissy fit and wants to report the failure back home. Hrmmm *keeps tinkering* Wonder what’s up.

Cute

Work blocks the chat page that comes up to respond to chat requests from the badge. Oh well… I might not respond I guess. But I think Google chat logs things. So you can at least leave a message.

Oh, hey

This thing is still here eh? Perhaps I should do something with it. =) Added the new Google Chat Badge. How’s that for progress, eh? Oh well… since I’m primarily doing web based work now I’ve been thinking of ways to spiff up this site and actually post. Of course it’s blocked by work… lovely.

Oh well… see you all soon.

Starbucks free music card

Starbucks free music card

Swung by Starbucks this morning since I was late getting out of the house. The guy asked me if I liked Bob Dylan and I was about to answer "Not especially" when I saw he was holding out this card. "Why certainly!" And I waved my iPhone around like a dork and we got into a conversation about it. Didn’t have time to use the store.

I was kind of hoping they’d just give you a coupon for any song for free. Oh well. Free is free, eh?

Dark party guests

Dark party guests

File under ‘lessons learned’: be careful when throwing parties with
open invites. You never know who will show up.

“Alright! Who drank the last of the Rogue?!”

“I killed them all!!!! *pounds fist* I killed them all!!!”

Slick paint job concept

Living Room Proposed Paint

This isn’t my picture or my idea. Found it on Flickr at Gorilla Sushi’s album. It looked too cool not to post though. Now i have to talk a certain some one into doing it.

New water bottle

New water bottle

Got a new Sigg water bottle from Switzerland. ( I didn’t actually have
to that far. Just to whole foods) it glows, too.

(Additional:)
I’m liking this little water bottle. I didn’t think I’d really mind one way or the other. But, it’s pretty stylish and it’s nice to have something besides my open-to-the-air plastic cup.

Love’s been mentioning that studies are showing that drinking water out of plastic bottles or cups (Nalgene’s especially) is turning out to be pretty bad for you. Leaching chemicals out of the plastic and into the water and then into you, naturally. *bad pun*

Hacked

Hacked

Well, I couldn’t help but hack it. I’m back and forth as to whether it
was worth the effort.

But yeah, I did it. The NES is pretty hard to play without the real
tactile feed back of the controller. And none of the third party apps
that use the keyboard use the predictive texting and auto-correction.
So typing can be a little more tedious, or at least slower.

More later.
