My plans are in full swing. In the office today I heard people talking about Moon Pie’s out of the blue. I hadn’t even tested my theory on anyone at work yet. And these people didn’t read my blog. Hrmmm…
Now I know there’s a name for the idea that once you start thinking about something you notice it everywhere. Like when you’re thinking of buying a new car you see that particular model all over the city.
But I’m going to shurk that idea for the moment. I’ll imagine that my choice of the Moon Pie was vague enough not to normally pop up randomly like so many cars on the road.
Oh.. and MonoCast Episode 4 is out! Check it out.
I’m going to interview Miguel tonight about the new Novell/Microsoft blood pact. We’ll see what’s what.
26 Oct
I posted the second part of Miguel’s introduction and also the presentation by Lluis Sanchez on MonoDevelop and Stetic - Mono’s IDE.
Head over to MonoCast to check them out.

It was extremely cool. Boston was amazing. Novell was fun. Google was gracious. And everyone who attended the conference was spectacular.
I want to go into more detail but I just got home and I’m totally beat. 10 hours of flying and lay overs just takes it outta me… and my ass.
But, check www.mono-cast.com for information, including the keynote. And Monologue for info as well.

Well, I got a hold of UPS to see if I could just pick up the package on Saturday if it was just going to sit in a warehouse in town till Monday. I got some southern lady who sounded ticked off and she said “NO, you may not pick up your package it is scheduled for delivery on Monday. Have a good day.” Click.
Then I spent an hour and a half on hold with Overnight(not)Prints. Finally I got shipping and they said they couldn’t change the delivery date or location - not true… I checked UPSs site - but I let it go. They refunded the shipping. Which is good. It’s over half the cost.
When all was said and done the guy says “Sorry we were late by a DAY.” in a sort of “what ever” voice. I said “Okay, thanks.” because I was done and I was in the middle of finishing some code so I could go home. But that kind of annoyed me a few minutes later when it sunk in. “.. late by a DAY.” Normally I can be understanding about ship times - even though I hit refresh on the package tracking over and over. But when your business model is all about.. Hrmm what was it? “Overnight”
The good news? I stopped by CJs place and picked up another pair of headphones and a video camera. Hopefully I’ll get some good stuff from the conference and some interviews to boot.
Tomorrow… get Digital tapes for the camera, get glossy card stock for the lame business cards I have to print myself - fortunately they send you an image file of your soon to be printed cards so I’ll just print some up. And.. hrmm I guess I don’t need anything else. Would’ve liked that 2 gigs of ram though.

Well, Episode 2 of MonoCast went out. I stayed up much to late again in post production. This one is a lot longer because I’ve got an interview mixed in finally and I”m not just biting news off monologue.
Next up.. heading to the Mono User and Developer Conference in Boston. I’m going to take some of Cj’s equipment and hopefully I can get interviews and video of the event.
This just in.. I plugged in my Nano just now and it told me firmware 1.3 was out. It says “blah bla blah Nike blah blah. ” and then just “Bug Fixes” I’m hoping the “Bug Fixes” is the issue I’m - hell everyone - is having with podcasts. I blogged about it earlier in the week. I’ll have a listen tonight and tomorrow and we’ll see what’s what.
Bonus.. there’s a new Tenacious D video up on iTunes for free and you can pre-order the new album. I haven’t watched the video yet. But.. Cool.

Worked late into the night with Rob Loach on getting the whole Skype recording thing down. Hopefully it will go off without a hitch next time I need to use it for the show.
I was hoping to get Rob and Dave Hudson from the Tao Framwork on the next show but Dave didn’t have Skype equipment. Forgot that you can Skype out until the end of the year for free.
I’m quickly trying to line up alternatives for the next show and I’ve bumped Tao off till the following show.
Woop, good times.

Well, I thumb my nose at my detractors. MonoCast 1.0 is out now in a number of different formats (mp3, AAC, and ogg). Head on over to www.mono-cast.com to check out the show.
It’s a little light this first time around because I don’t have any interviews or extended project reviews. A little listener input will help fill it in as well.
More polish for the next version is in the works. And it’ll be a weekly podcast out every wednesday night.
Hopefully I’ll have the gear together to get some interviews at the Mono Developer’s Conference.
Be sure to check out the contact information and join the forums to comment.

So. This weekend I put a little flesh in the forums. Did test recordings with people and worked with Audacity. Built out the intro music. Came up with a full show outline. I emailed a guest to appear on the show. I sent out the outline to the potential co-hosts and… *crickets chirping*
It’s frustrating trying to get folks to move on something. I’ve been talking about/promissing MonoCast for a while. Time to deliver.

Worked tonight to try and find the right microphone/headphone/computer combination. Of the 3 boxes I tried no ONE worked 100%. The most promissing supposedly gave an echo with Gizmo. I’m going to bring my closed headphones home from work tomorrow and give them a shot. Might solve that problem. But then again. That machines drive sounds like a jet engine. So I’ll have to hid it in a drawer or something.
Picked out the intro/outro music for the show from podsafe audio.
Going to setup a show outline this week, do the interview and record the rest of the show.
Should be out soon.

A lot of misc. data today:
Wireless:
Got the dish off the deck. It’s a Dish Network dish and not like the one in the O’Reilly Wireless Hacks book. Anyone have any experience with this model? The camera is back with my father-in-law (Who owns it) so I didn’t get any pictures.
MonoCast:
Got two decent microphones for MonoCast. They’re a normal earphone style jack though and not the three prongers. One says it’s a condensor mic but I thought those needed to be 3 prong and have phantom power. Guess not?
I’m still a little stumped about recording. I saw online where I can get a new $50 mixer on Amazon and a really nice mic for the same. But I don’t have the cash for that at the moment. I’m thinking I’ll need to get it though.
Going to get the developer interview for MonoCast this week. I swear!
Non-Profit:
Still haven’t gotten to my father-in-law’s non-profit needs. They’re still busy. But I’ve got another friend who will need some of the same work done. I’ve been thinking about Asterisk more and someone pointed me to Asterisk@Home. A nice live CD that apparently handles most of the setup for you.
Now I need to think about hardware since I don’t think they’ll want to switch to linux and run software phones. =) I may set this up at home to play with. I have a spare box that I thought Aiden might use. But he likes his laptop just fine.
WoW:
We ran SM last night and were with in minutes of finishing the last 3 bosses in the Cathedral and then we’d be able to get the Sword of Serenity. But then the guys we were questing with had to drop because the time they had at a net cafe expired. Doh!
Work:
I’ve had a lot of time to write this because due to policy changes at work that wiped out GoogleDesktop and iTunes access my computer ate itself. I put in a “Ticket” to get this resolved. But till them I’m running MonoLive on the box. I’ve checked our corp manuals and it doesn’t look like I “can’t” run linux. I may just dump windows. At least put it in a VM and not worry about crap like this anymore.
MonoCast Extra:
The MonoCast page is up now www.mono-cast.com. I might change the colors a bit but it works. The forums are… sparse. I’m going to fill those in more in the coming week.
That’s all for now.
