Oh Did I forget to mention there’s a MonoCast site?
I’m working on getting that setup so that people interested in MonoCast don’t have to slog through my blog to see it. MonoCast will also have it’s own set of forums as well. I may just drops the forums on this site since.. well.. they’re boring if we’re just talking about me.
Trying to mirror the look of www.mono-project.com and hopefully they’ll be sister sites.
I was talking to latexer about what he does with Mono when he asked me why I wanted to know I told him I was getting an idea of a list of people to interview. He told me that I shouldn’t bother interviewing him because there were more important people to talk to.
That’s not the case. I’ve always thought that part of Open Source development was that everyone is important or at least on the same level. I mean.. sure a Miguel or a Linus are important because they steer or nudge the project in certain directions… act as focus. But everyone is contributing and what better way to entice people to try Mono and contribute – which is a large part of the show – than to have examples of normal developers that everyone can relate to.
So for people who like hero worship we’ve got some prominent people around – not saying they enjoy it – but we’ve also got the everyman who makes it all happen.
So don’t be surprised if you get asked to be on the show.
So far I’ve recieved some good feedback on the idea of MonoCast.
I was chatting with abock about a logo for the site and while he was excited at the idea of a Mono Community centric podcast he steered me away from AAC and Garage Band. I really do like the ability to add pictures and chapter stops but apparently I’m the only one. He suggested MP3 and OGG. But didn’t know of a good set of tools for recording.
I started talking to CJ tonight about MonoCast and suggested maybe he could be involved. He instantly pointed to Audacity and agreed that OGG was the way to go. So.. there we go. I’ve played a very little bit with Audacity tonight while I’ve been sitting in bed updating my blog. It looks pretty nice and means that I can now conceivably do the podcast from some where besides Stacia’s iBook. It also means that I won’t have to pay $79 to upgrade her Garage Band to GB3 in iLife ‘06. Or pay $1,900 for an iMac.
It looks like Gizmo Project does it’s own recording of calls so that’s an option as well. We’ve used it for our Seattle Mono Users meetings and found it really works and sounds better than Skype – for various reasons that Eric or Chris would love to go into. =)
Since I live in the middle of no where I won’t have the luxury of doing my first few podcasts with just 2 people and figuring the “call in” portion out later. I’m going to want to have people on from the get go. I may have to look at getting a dial in line. Either that or just expect everyone to either use SIP or Gizmo Project.
So it looks like I’m quickly coming down to the point in a project that every “planning geek” dreads. Time to actually DO it.
Please visit the forums and add your two cents about the proposed format as well as things you’d like to hear, people interviewed, or questions answered.
Also… if you’ve got some artistic talent and would be interested in designing a logo for us drop me an email. I’m looking to get a logo of the mono monkey with headphones and a microphone. Either the profiled Mono logo or the default hackergatchi from monologue would be cool.
